Before Treatment: Know Broca’s Aphasia

Damage on the frontal-lobe part of the brain, called Broca, usually reckons the problem known as Broca’s Aphasia. Having this condition may not impair your ability to comprehend but you will not be able to speak your ideas fluently, considering that the affected region of the brain controls speech and motor movements. In most cases, this disorder can be pretty visible in several symptoms like difficulty in forming complete sentences, articulating words, following directions, having poor grammar, and/or omitting to use certain basic connecting words like “and” or “is”.

Speech Therapy

After considering all possible causes and signs of Broca’a Aphasia, it's time to offer hope by opening discussion on its treatment exercises. Proven treatment of this neurological condition is speech therapy, which requires both medical and social interventions. The speech therapy can be done in-person or an online modality.  Therapy exercises may differ from patient to patient with the most common being the sing-song exercise where patients are asked to practice saying words in a singing way.

Once again, Broca’s Aphasia calls for medical attention. Any exercises designed to address this condition should be guided by a licensed speech-language pathologist, whose evaluation and support are essential to the process. This medical professional will simulate any therapies needed for the patient’s recovery and assess the progress. Patients are also encouraged to help their loved ones understand the important role they play in supporting the recovery of speech abilities.

Environmental Support

Depending only on speech therapy exercises provided by a qualified speech-language pathologist can be an effective approach. But, proven in most cases of Broca’s Aphasia is that social and environmental support will be beneficial, too. Treating this condition can be easy for patients  if the people around them, such as family, friends and community continuously have open conversations with them. Hearing and allowing the patient to speak and practice the therapy exercises in casual settings will help improve their condition significantly.
